Uttrakhand

Uttarakhand was formed on the 9th November 2000 as the 27th State of India, when it was carved out of northern Uttar Pradesh. Located at the foothills of the Himalayan mountain ranges, it is largely a hilly State, having international boundaries with China (Tibet) in the north and Nepal in the east. On its north-west lies Himachal Pradesh, while on the south is Uttar Pradesh. It is rich in natural resources especially water and forests with many glaciers, rivers, dense forests and snow-clad mountain peaks. Char-dhams, the four most sacred and revered Hindu temples of Badrinath,Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri are nestled in the mighty mountains. It’s truly God’s Land (Dev Bhoomi). Dehradun is the Capital of Uttarakhand. It is one of the most beautiful resort in the submountain tracts of India, known for its scenic surroundings. The town lies in the Dun Valley, on the watershed of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers.

Rishikesh

Rishikesh is a tehsil located in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garhwal region right on the banks of the holiest of Indian rivers, the Ganges. This ancient city has several mythological and religious legends associated with Lord Vishnu, Lord Bharat.

Nanital

Nainital, the hill resort town in the district of the same name, derives its name from the emerald, glassy, eye-shaped lake (tal) which the town is built around. The British Sugar trader, P. Baron, founded the town in the year 1841.

Kedarnath

Kedarnath temple is one of the sacred pilgrimage centre in Northern India, located on the bank of Mandakini river at an altitude of 3584 meters above sea level. The historical name of this region is "Kedar Khand".

Badrinath

This holy town is named after the Badrinath temple dedicated to the preserver, Lord Vishnu. Many Hindu devotees are smitten by the charm of this holy shrine as it showcases the traditional Garhwali wooden architecture.

Haridwar

The Haridwar city has a religious significance as the holy river Ganga enters the Indo-Gangetic Plains of North India for the first time in Haridwar. Thereby making its former name 'Gangadwara' perfect in every sense.

Gangotri

Gangotri Dham, located at the height of 3,100 meters (approx.) on the Himalayan range in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, holds a very special place in the hearts of Hindus. It is one of the four sacred and important pilgrimage sites of Chota Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand.

Pithoragarh

Pithoragarh is a scenic town in the Kumaon hills of eastern Uttarakhand. Pithoragarh is situated in a serene valley known as Soar Valley. The borders of Tibet and Nepal touch Pithoragarh. Kali River flows through Pithoragarh.

almora

Almora is believed to have gotten its name from Kilmora, a kind of sorrel, a short plant commonly found here, which was said to be used for washing the utensils of the sun temple at Katarmal.Almora is a picturesque town set against the backdrop of the snow-capped Himalayas.
