Located in South-Eastern Rajasthan, Chittorgarh is known for Chittorgarh Fort, the largest fort in India built on a hilltop, spreading over an area of around 700 acres. The capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Mewar, the magnificent fortress will always be remembered for the courageous self-sacrificing Jauhar performed by Rani Padmini to thwart the conquest of the fort by Alauddin Khilji. Chittorgarh stands at the helm of Chattari Rajput pride and is remembered in the pages of history for its glorious battles, especially the siege of Alauddin Khilji. Once known for its grandeur and opulence, today, Chittorgarh has left its tales of bravery and betrayal far behind to catch up to commercialization. It takes a few hours to cover the fort complex on foot. Wear comfortable footwear and keep a water bottle handy.

Chittorgarh Fort

Chittorgarh Fort is one of the most important places to visit in Chittorgarh. This historical fort is the pride of the Rajasthani town as it stands imposingly upon the top of a hill, looking down protectively over the city. Nearly all of Chittorgarh’s attractions are housed inside the fort.

Vijay Stambha (Victory Tower)

The Vijay Stambha stands tall and mighty in the premises of the Chittorgarh Fort. Built in 1440 AD by Maharana Kumbha to commemorate his victory over Mohamed Khilji.

Padmini's Palace

Loacted inside the Chittorgarh Fort, the Padmani Palace has a unique history attached to it making it one of the must-visit attractions in Chittorgarh fort. This palace was the reason for the battle betweenAla-ud-din Khilji and Rana Ratan Singh.

Fateh Prakash Palace

The Fateh Singh Palace inside the Chittorgarh Fort is a striking structure. Its chief attraction, and one that distinguishes it from the other buildings of the fort, is that it is built is a markedly modern fashion as opposed to the other structures. The palace was built by Maharana Pratap Singh, and is named after him.

Sanwariaji Temple

Sanwariaji Temple is one of the most renowned places to visit in Chittorgarh. The massive temple complex is considered second in religious importance only to the Krishna Temple in Nathdwara, and is a popular pilgrimage shrine in Rajasthan. Located approximately 40 kilometres away from Chittorgarh.

Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary

This beautiful and diverse sanctuary 25 kilometres away from Chittorgarh city, is home to trees like Dhok, Salar, Churel, Butea; and also shelters animals like Panthers, Chitals, Wild Boars, Hyenas, Jackals, Four Horned Antelopesamong others. The footfall in the sanctuary is usually on the lower side.
